26 April 2021

Rusatom Overseas (Rosatom) and TMH - Energy Solutions (a subsidiary of Transmashholding JSC) signed a memorandum of cooperation and mutual understanding regarding the creation of a joint venture with the purpose of combining efforts in the field of hydrogen fuel cell-powered transport.

The Parties intend to implement a project including the creation and supply of refueling infrastructure and power plants for hydrogen fuel cell trains to run in the Sakhalin Oblast. In addition, the companies have plans to develop a concept of hydrogen transport project in Moscow and take part in its implementation as an integrated supplier of transport power plants, as well as a developer and owner of the refueling infrastructure. The companies set themselves the following goals: to ensure the localization of advanced foreign technologies of hydrogen energy for the transport sector in Russia; to organize the development and create conditions for the professional ownership and management of the hydrogen transport infrastructure; to ensure hydrogen sales for the needs of the transport sector.

“This is a significant pilot project for the region, which is being developed by Russian Railways JSC, Rosatom, Transmashholding JSC and the Government of the Sakhalin Oblast, and we will make every effort to successfully implement it. We also see significant prospects for the development of hydrogen transport in other regions of Russia," said Evgeny Pakermanov, President, Rusatom Overseas JSC.

"Hydrogen fuel is one of the basis components of the energy industry of the future," pointed out Kirill Lipa, Director General, Transmashholding JSC. "Its widespread use will significantly reduce the impact of transport on the environment, which is especially important in urban agglomerations and large industrial centers"
