Bilateral monitoring on progress and quality of work of the country's largest Rooppur nuclear power project began on Tuesday.
High-level representatives from Bangladesh and Russia and nuclear experts are taking part in the two-day observation and monitoring on February 9 and 10.
Bangladesh is led by Science and Technology Affairs Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman and on behalf of Russia by Alexander Lokshin, First Deputy Director General of Rosatom, the state nuclear agency, and President of Atomstroyexport. The Ministry of Science and Technology of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority and Atomstroyexport, Rosenergoatom, Russia's nuclear regulatory body and nuclear experts from different areas are monitoring the overall progress, monitoring and quality of work on behalf of Russia.
On the eve of the observation, Yeafesh Osman said, multiple meetings would be held after monitoring and observation in a friendly atmosphere with the top level representatives of Russia, an ally of the Liberation War. He said, "It is very important to implement the project as per the schedule while maintaining the quality of work."
In this regard, RNPP project director Dr Shawkat Akbar said, a 10-member high-level delegation from Russia and Rosatom, Atomstroyexport, Rosenergoatom, Russian Nuclear Regulatory Body and nuclear experts and senior officials from different areas have come for observation and monitoring. In two days, quality monitoring along with the overall progress of the project work will be done jointly by experts from both the countries. Multiple meetings have been organized on current and next year's schedule. He said Russian authorities would meet with their contractors and sub-contractors and give instructions.
